Bella Pietra's 1st Annual Fabricator Friday
August 12, 2011
On Friday, August 5, 2011 Bella Pietra hosted its first annual Fabricator Friday event at the Honolulu warehouse in celebration of 10 years of being Hawaii's premier stone source. Bella Pietra's most valued fabricators and contractors were invited to come down and enjoy complementary burgers, brats, and beers while sharing stories of success and camaraderie. It was a small way of saying a big "mahalo!" for trusting Bella Pietra over the years. Looking forward to continued success together!
A message from Bella Pietra's CEO, Layla Dedrick:
"Mahalo to all the contractors that have supported us over our first decade in business- it's hard to believe its been 10 years! Aloha, Layla"
Stepping Stones for the Children of Aina Haina's Holy Nativity Preschool
June 21, 2011
Through the efforts of many volunteers the Holy Nativity School in Aina Haina recently installed a school garden to be used for teachers and the children alike as a learning resource to teach the value of gardening and sustainability. With Bella Pietra's donation of granite pavers to the preschool the children of the Holy Nativity are now able to navigate through the garden easier, enhancing their outdoor education experience.
The Holy Nativity School sent a great letter to Bella Pietra about the improvements with the donated pavers:
"Layla... thank you for donating the stones... The stones have made a great improvement to the garden's appearance and function. Plus the students love to walk along the stone pathway like it's an adventure. But what they really love is to explore all the bugs that make their home under the stones!" –Sheryl
University of Hawaii's Students Build Sustainable Community Bunk House
May 11, 2011
Bella Pietra generously donated the tavertine tile necessary for University of Hawaii's Build Lightly Studio to complete the floors to their 2011 Student Project of repurposing a single family home deep in the Kokua Kalihi Valley into a self-sustainable community "Bunk House". Working together with Ho'oulu 'Aina, Kailihi Valley Nature Preserve (a branch of the non-profit program Kokua Kalihi Valley Comprehensive Family Services) and other private-sector architecture, planning, and construction firms, Build Lightly aims for students and community memebers to recognize new possibilities for both green design and community-based work.
Economics and Social Entrepreneurship
April 04, 2011
Layla Dedrick gave two one-hour presentations at 'Iolani School on Monday, April 4, presenting to two class sections of “Economics and Social Entrepreneurship” about entrepreneurship and running a business. I used BP as a model for what they should think about when working on a business plan. Their main assignment in this class is to write a business plan for something they are interested in. We talked about matching skill, passion, and marketability to find the “magic spot’ for thinking about a career or business. The students were polite, engaged, and asked great questions such as "How did you know what you wanted to do?" and "What’s the hardest thing about running a business?"
